It is always a warning for me, when such a successful Artist leaves for better or worse in such dramatic and controversial ways.
Superficial interpretations of what such a life would be, pop into my mind... The success, the artistic achievements, the money and respect from a world of wonders.
What would I have done ? ...
The last thing is Heroin (if what has been alleged on the New York Post and many other publications and news agencies is true).
I am pretty sure of that but I believe each one of us has his poison, and each one of us makes his choices. I also believe that "with great power comes great responsibility" and perhaps failing to recognize that power is at best irresponsible and at worst a lethal failure. At times though, is "just" part of the path, it should come with the job.
I have been no Angel and I have experienced a few times around, how easy it can be to get High, forget or just "un-think" and it is such a subtle confusion that, the "getting out of it" (whatever that "it" is for you" ) is nearly every time the ultimate achievement or so it should be.
It is also the ultimate challenge for some, that should bring nothing else but "Change" and between the many things, for one, a "greater level of awareness", balance, equilibrium.
These sudden and apparently shocking deaths are a warning indeed, they make me stop for a moment and they wake up that introspective part of my self. Perhaps this is their purpose and other than being grateful for all the work Philip Seymour Hoffman has done and all the fantastic characters he has played, I decided I want to be grateful as well for this last (wanted or not) statement. Grateful for making me once again think, ...
What am I doing , today, right now ? I will certainly remember and surely watch times and again "Scent of a Woman --- George Willis JR.", "Boogie Nights -- Scotty J.", "The Big Lebowsky -- Brandt" of course "Capote -- Truman Capote", "Doubt -- Father Brendan Flynn", "The Master -- Lancaster Dodd" and many others.
What would You have done?
